Of course this raises some questions (at least with me ;) like:
-How do you get users to know about this option
-After opening f.e. Firefox while holding Ctrl, will it mean the Activities
will hide again if I let go or will it just be staying open and wait for new
input?
But overall I really like the Sound of this, especially the "Stack up Actions
without re-entering the Menu" Part.

What do you think about this idea:
When first starting my computer I usually want to start a number of
applications that I do not want to autostart. So what I do is that I
type "firefox" and press Enter, press the system key to get back to the
activities area, type something else and press Enter, etc, etc, etc.
Would it be possible to instead of pressing Enter pressing something
like Ctrl + Enter and NOT have the activities area close. So I
immediately could start typing again. This behaviour could be the same
for mouse clicks; Ctrl + Left Mouse Click opens an application while
keeping the activities area open.
This can be a good idea, I think you should file a bug report with this
proposal, so that designers can comment on it.
For now, you can already drag and drop applications to the workspace
area, this will achieve waht you want (of course, it would be easier if
you didn't have to use/move the mouse).
