I should restate that this problem absolutely only occurs when two
monitors are enabled. If I disable the second monitor and perform the
same tests, there is absolutely no change in performance. Did you
conduct your testing with two monitors?

You can see that it tries very hard to make sure that it's not holding
onto the pixmap any more than it needs to.
