Having seen how the po/pot system works (I have never been even slightly involved in the translation of GNOME documentation) it seems that the pages would have to have an English release a week or so before the actual release of the actual page.
The main problem is that a site is almost impossible to maintain over multiple languages because of the amount of time and manpower it requires to translate the endless strings on a website. When you consider a couple of pages with about 1500 words it would require at least a half a day (minimum) solid work to translate it (just a guestimate I am probably wrong. Again I am can only speak English and a few scattered word of German). Btw. I am probably not the person to talk about translation since I - well to put it frankly - can't do it, but all of those with ideas and skill in and about translation we/I need ideas. But like Christian, I think it would be good if we used a system that allows translators to work like they already do, with .po files. For instance, we hacked something together to do the translation of the release notes: http://www.murrayc.com/blog/tech/2005-09-01-10-20.html > What do you mean by properly? Proper translation would allow you to update the translation when the translation changes. And it would allow you to know how much of a site had been translated and was up to date.
