A negative amount if you include in your ads 'John Doe Computers

But to use it in the name of your product, such as "Colin's Microsoft Text Editor", how much would I have to pay?

There is no amount because you can't use their name that way. You could say "Colin's Text Editor for Microsoft Windows" but you could not say "Colin's Microsoft Text Editor."

Similarly, you could not say "Colin's IBM App" or "Colin's SuSE App"

Oh come on, I can use their name that way if they give me permission. And for sufficiently
large values of $royalties, they will give me that permission.

Also, I was responding to Karen Hill, who complained that Linus was charging $5,000 to
use the Linux trademark.
