------- Re:Linus is just pissed at his own irrelevance (Score:0) By Anonymous Reader on 2006.08.06 4:02 (#129508) Don't confuse "Fame" with "Relevance". Torvalds would be nobody if not for the work of Stallman. Stallman is to FOSS what Malmsteen is to rock guitar. Others may come along and get the fame and fortune, but if it weren't for his influence, they would have never got into it to begin with. What this really comes down to is that Torvalds doesn't understand the meaning of the GPL, be it version 2 or 3. He knows what he wants, which is free contributions ot his nest egg. This lack of understanmding has been shown time and time again through his own actions. One major example was the use of BitKeeper being forced upon the actual kernel developers by glory hog Torvalds. When it comes donw to it, Torvalds did nothing more than make a free working kernel before anyone else did. (Sans BSD which was in legal limbo at the time). Since then, Linux has been the baby of the community and companies with interest in cutting thier own development costs using community driven code. Torvalds has been more than willing to sit in the captain's chair while others plot the course and steer the ship. All the while making absurd proclamations that come more from his ego rather than his brain. It's this ego trip that has made him both famous and irrelevant. ------- regards, alexander. _______________________________________________ gnu-misc-discuss mailing list [email protected] http://lists.gnu.org/mailman/listinfo/gnu-misc-discuss
