Giving no proof with this kind of claim does not make you credible.

After the first GCC sources have been out around 1986, we did have 
long discussions about how to make it usable for the real world.
The solution introduced around Autumn 1987 was to intentionally open the
GPL against any independent library and to introduce the LGPL for the
"libgcc" code.
