Large number of people spawn VPS-es today, they have no idea if it is "free" software and even so, if they hear free they may not know what it means. All they want is to run their Wordpress or other instances.
Wordpress would be running on their computer (even if they are borrowing hardware from someone else). But the rest of your message is conflating issues, what Gobble does isn't pertinent here, nor what the GDPR says, or GitBlob, or people violating licenses (which can be a good thing, if those licenses are unjust!) so I'm having a hard time following it or responding to it. Lets try to stick to one topic, and not fan out so much? That is, running software in a web browser that you download from someone elses server. That some people will not care about their rights is not something we can fix, people will do what people will do. But what the GNU project, and the FSF can and do is highlight these issues by taking an extra step There are now many Javascript application such as notes, where all users' data remain in the browser, nothing is stored on the remote server. That is good development. It is not, since such a program could just as well be run locally, without the dependancy on someone else infrastructure. If that server goes away, you're shit out of luck.
