Well, I'm not sure that changing fragment like this is necessarily
desirable. I haven't been using mudela-book, but I have been using
yodl which has the "fragment" option and the point of fragments (at
least to me) is that I can insert a little tiny fragment of music,
maybe 5 notes. If you change fragment so that it doesn't do
linewidth=-1, then fragment becomes useless for small music fragments.
Since I perceive the purpose of fragment as being the introduction of
these small bits of music (fragments), I regard linewidth=-1 as a
crucial characteristic. In other words, change the documentation not
the behavior.
Inconsistency between mudela-book and yodl would be bad as well. (And
changing the behavior of the fragment option in yodl would actually
screw up the documentation with no obvious (to me) way to fix it.) If
you want a way of inserting music without having to type the "red
tape" and without linewidth=-1, I suggest introducing a new option.
