.pmx and .mtx belong to the MusiXTeX preprocessor pmx and the pmx preprocessor M-Tx
(see http://www.gmd.de/Misc/Music/musixtex/ ) resp. I more than doubt that convertion
utilities from these formats to the mudela format exist. The only way I can figure out
to accomplish something like it is by using the beta release of pmx (see the above
mentioned URL) allowing MIDI output and afterwards taking the MIDI file into midi2ly.
In
a similar way the conversion from mudela to pmx is to a limited extent possible by
means
of the music editor Rosegarden (http://www.bath.ac.uk/~masjpf/rose.html) allowing MIDI
input and pmx output

the extension .mus is used by several programs, among them the commercial editor Finale

as the current author of the glossary I'll give your proposal a thought. Your idea
seems
obvious to me.
