As anyone on the info list knows, modifications to Lily 1.3 are still
coming thick and fast, with no end in sight. And, the Scarlatti
project, now with 1-97 in final musical form and posted at my site
and Werner's, is stuck on 1.2.16, the last stable version.

The one thing I am getting from every musician who tries to use
Lily's Scarlatti is the lack of rests. In polyphonic music, rests
have to be placed as precisely as note heads do, so the player knows
which part a rest belongs to. And, of course, Lily 1.2 has no
provision for this, so I have to leave all part rests out, and put in
only global silences.

What is needed is a syntax equivalent to \restposition b,;r4 - put a
1/4 rest where the note head of b, would go (i.e. on the lower
staff). And, to be realistic about my time and my proofreaders' time,
it has to work with 1.2.16 Mudela to avoid a rework and re-proofread
of the sonatas already done.

Is there anyone skilled enough with C and the innards of Lily who
would be willing to do that?

John
