What version of makeinfo (texinfo) do you use? Over here it
seems work with 4.0:
21:00:42 appel ~/usr/src/lilypond/Documentation$ make out/faq.txt
makeinfo -I../ --no-split --no-headers --output out/faq.txt out/faq.texi
