You might not recommend, but I use Trisquel. Depends on Debian. The question is, does GNU want us to spent time on those projects, or Is that precious time better spent elsewhere.
That is up to each maintainer to decide. If you think a GNU project is useful, or you enjoy using then the effort to package it for the GNU/Linux system, or other system you prefer seems like a useful task.
