You're exactly right. As folks become more sophisticated in their
understanding of accounting and how to use it, they need to be able to
"retroactively" make policy changes in the way they keep their books.
By hand is no fun; having a good transaction-finder is important.
I'm actually working on this right now with help from Dave to get the
register display stuff right. The idea is that you'll be able to do a
"find" operation to open a special kind of register display which
shows transactions from any account that match your criteria. Once
you get that register up, you should be able to add or delete
transactions from the display until you get the "just right" set of
transactions. Then, you can run a "transform" operation to modify
transactions in a variety of ways.
As of last night the "find and display" part is more-or-less working.
There's a fair amount of cleanup to be done still, and very little
user interface exists, but it's a start.
