Although I do sleep through my email all too often, most people on this
list probably *haven't* heard any announcements. That's mostly because
there have't been any. Nor did I want this e-mail to be it.

But the upshot is: yes, there's a company, yes, we're hiring, so if you
write code or are good at marketing, write me. We don't have a name yet
(actually, we have two, and/but we need to fix that), there is no
corporate web site, there's nothing documenting what we sell or for how
much, mostly because no ones gotten around to it yet. So, how's that
for a startup? Now its hopefully clear why there aren't any
announcements: we aren't prepared to be slashdotted, we aren't prepared
to take phone calls from the press, and etc. To that end, please help
us not get slashdotted; talk about this with your freinds, but please
don't post on some major newsgroup.

What will the company do? Continue development of GnuCash under the
GPL. Provide support, documentation. Help make sure its in your latest
Linux distro, and that what's there works well. Maybe even get it
shrink-wrapped at your local bricks-n-mortar mass-market software
merchent!

As John Hasler laments, the first release is really aimed at home users
and will really focus on ease of use and on having 'feature parity' with
Those Other(TM) popular home-user accounting systems. But I don't want
to ignore small-business needs or features ... being a small business, I
know what that feels like. There's a lot of interest in a business-
accounting package for Linux. I'd like GnuCash to be that. I like to
look at it like this: if we can't do the basic-101 features well, its
pointless to add complex business accounting modules.

What about the 'open source community'? Well, you know how it works.
Send in a patch, and if it doesn't torpedo anything, it gets into cvs.
Keep doing that, and, what, did I mention we're hiring? And even if
that's not how you participate in this community, I still hope that
we'll find some sort of long term reward. My empathy to everyone on
this list whose suffered through the long bouts of our crappy beta
software and stayed loyal none-the-less. We'll find some way of making
everyone happy if not satisfied with the results.
