On purpose. I'll let you know the reasoning, and you can
decide whether you still want it back :)
It was removed because we have two 'open' items on the toolbar,
one for opening files and one for opening accounts. This was
kind of confusing. Furthermore, it seems to me that you would
use the 'open account' button a lot when you use gnucash, but
the 'open file' button usually only once. Since the toolbar is
for common functions, it seemed like the 'open file' button
should go.
I should mention that the file menu now tracks your file history,
i.e., once you open a file, you can open the 'File' menu and there
will be a menu item for that file. This will persist between invocations
of gnucash. So it seems like that would be even faster than the open
file button.
