In particular, it seems like Helix Code has raised a lot of capital to
address exactly this problem for programs very much like gnucash.
They apparently haven't done their own version of gnucash yet, but it
seems like they're much better equipped to deal with the problems. It
would probably be easy to convince them to include gnucash.
(Although it is true that they so far have produced limited solutions:
only Linux distributions, and at least for Debian, only i386.)

Absolutely. Doing something special for gnucash would be inordinately
silly.
