Save Files

Hello

    I just had a quick question:  What is happening with all the files
in the directory that you save your books in?  Each time I save, I get a
new set of files in the my saved directory.  I am just trying to
understand what is going on and what porpose this is for.  Any info on
this or direction to where I can read about this would be greatly
appreciated.
