Something caught my attention that deserves praise:
At least in the versions of Quicken that I've used, there's a limit to the
size of catagory names, and "sub-catagories" are even more severely limited.
This makes for some very awkward abbreviations.
GnuCash at least has much larger fields for account names -- to the point that
I haven't run into the limit yet, and haven't been abbreviating things at
all! Good work, folks! :-)
Now, a suggestion:
It might be instructive/helpful to beginners/etc. to have a set of fairly
common "accounts" as a loadable starting point for keeping track of your
personal checking account. (Things that many/most people would find useful,
such as "income:salary", "expenses:Mortgage payments",
and "expenses:Car:Insurance".) Yes, I've seen the list in the documentation,
but it would be nice to have the "package" (RPM/tarball) include the "data
files" that have them pre-entered. (Or do I need to RFM again? :-)
