Just thought I'd point out that 1.4.2 can be installed quite easily if
you are using Debian. Simply add:

deb http://spidermonkey.helixcode.com/distributions/debian unstable main

to /etc/apt/sources.list and run 'apt-get update ; apt-get install gnucash'
Any needed dependencies will be installed automatically.
