Bob, I managed to work around the segfault I had left and pushed that commit as well in case you want to try it.
While doing so I noticed three more issues I need to fix: - newlines are not properly stripped from csv type data (they are for fixed width type data) - column splitting misbehaves with multi-byte characters (it can even split one right in the middle causing invalid characters - invalid dates are not detected. This one will be fixed while porting to Johns GncNumeric code. Just so you know where I am currently.
