I second that you can just start with C++. C++11 and beyond permits and encourages programming styles that are very different from C's.
A while back (having already worked with C and C++ for many years) I read Koenig & Moo's Accelerated C++. For specificity, here's a link at one online vendor: https://www.amazon.com/Accelerated-C-Practical-Programming-Example/dp/020170353X/ One of its strong points is that it doesn't talk about memory allocation until near the end and encourages a nearly python-with-types style of programming. That produces much more readable and maintainable code.
