OK actual reason.

Horse Agistment business.

The farrier comes and reshoes 3 horses, each belonging to a different person.
The farrier gives me 1 bill for the complete job.
When I enter the bill I want to be able to enter 3 lines, each for "reshoing of horse" and allocate each line to a different owner.

Hope this explains it well.

Regards, Allan

Is it possible to allocate individual line items in a bill to different customers?

You might perhaps begin by describing what you are trying to do from a business perspective. In other words, at least to me it is totally unclear what you are talking about. Forget for a moment anything to do with gnucash.

For example (and this is just a wild guess) you receive an invoice (a bill) for goods you are purchasing on behalf of a number of your customers and you want to allocate to each of them the parts (the lines) that are theirs. But wouldn't that be subject to the additional possible complication that more than one customer is associated with a line (say one line is for three widgets, two destined for one customer but the third to a different customer.

Now probably my wild guess is wrong so tell us what YOU are trying to accomplish.
