The file is both on the hard drive and in the cloud as one drive saves it to 
both.  It works fine when I "Save" it.  I only have this problem if I fail to 
save and the auto save feature has not yet saved it.  I don't use multiple 
computers either.  I'm glad it works in 2.6.21, but it doesn't work on my 
version of Windows 11 GnuCash 4.10.  Other users have responded that they're 
seeing the same issue.  If I let the countdown clock in that same dialogue, go 
to zero, it does save the file without the error message on restart.

This may not be correct assumption. The file is on the local hard drive for
sure.



Only way that file would appear back is if he is using it to access the file
from multiple computers or GNC is not removing it.



I employ the same work flow (to Google Drive) but it serves as a backup
purpose as I do not use it on multiple computers and I experience the same
behavior on Windows 10 using GNC 4.10.



This is the modern way of doing things, sadly. They employ various means to
make sure that the "view" of the drive is consistent.

I'm running 2.6.21 (on Windows10).



Clicking the X, or File->Quit, both produce a dialog offering a choice of



close-without-save, cancel, or save-and-close.



"Cancel" does what I expect: cancels the close operation and returns to

the same state as if I hadn't done File-Quit.

The filename suggests you are keeping the file "in the cloud", and if so

this (failure to delete the lock file) seems to be expected behaviour,

regardless of Windows or Gnucash version.
