I don't want to belabor the obvious, but did you install it? When I
download GnuCash for Mac, it comes as a .dmg file, which I then open and
have to drag GnuCash to the Applications folder. I then go to the
Applications folder and double-click on GnuCash to start it.

You mention "...once I've tapped on the line in the downloads file..."
(what does that mean?).

I have an M1 iMac running Ventura, but I can't believe that my situation
would be so different from yours.
