IMHO, that is probably asking too much from a person that has never put a foot in the software development world. Let's keep the "customers" in mind as to who they are.
While I completely agree that SQL backend does have many benefits, if one was dive in without understanding it, it is more likely to make the situation worse rather than make it better.
