Hi Tom

To answer your specific question:
> How do I track down a problem when the GnuCash software isn't giving

(a) Try some debugging:
https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Tracefile
https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Windows_Debugging

(b) Divide & Conquer:
Split your input file in half and try again. If it works, try the next half. If it fails, go back to (b).

To achieve your goal:

Be patient. Learn from those who have gone before you and start with a much much smaller input file. Try importing a single transaction, then a day's transactions, then a whole month, than a whole year. See what works and what doesn't. Backup and restore as you go along.

I have been doing QIF imports for over a decade. The QIF Importer works, but does get bogged down as the input file gets larger and larger.

Good luck!

Hi Ken,
I did try looking thru a bunch of those archive messages (although
admittedly no more than a few dozen). But none of those postings seem
to address the same thing that I've run into. Most are regarding
problems that users found with the accounts or entries in the
resulting .gnucash file that gets created. Or in some cases, users
reported getting an error during the Import process, and the Import
having failed because of that error. That's not the problem I'm
having.

My problem is that I get NO error at all from the Import process. It
just stops and closes after several hours with NO indication at all as
to why. I don't know how to troubleshoot a problem where there's no
error being reported, and the Import software is just silently closing
for no apparent reason. If there's any folks out there that have run
into the same thing as that, I'm not seeing any reports of it in the
archives. That's why I'm asking about it here. How do I track down a
problem when the GnuCash software isn't giving me any error?

It's a very long link. Alternatively you could search the archives
yourself and find all these past discussions.
