Given that the file size is okay, it is odd that you are only seeing your expense accounts. What does the "Accounts" page show? My bank accounts are under Assets-Current Assets; if I right-click and select "Edit Account", I see that the "Type" is "Bank". Are your bank accounts missing?
Dumb question: Are you sure you opened the account file? On my Mac, the window title has the name of the open file, and I always use File->Open to open an account file (but GnuCash defaults to the last one open, it seems, so I rarely have to do this).
