Interesting situation! It sounds more like a Linux Mint/Chrome issue
than a GnuCash issue, but that's just my first impression...  

https://www.linuxmint.com/download_all.php - it looks like the current
version of Linux Mint is 22.1 and if your hardware can handle it,
upgrading Linux Mint would be the first thing I would attempt.  

Are you using the Linux Mint/Ubuntu system package of Chrome or the
Flatpak version of Chrome? https://flathub.org/apps/com.google.Chrome  

Another option might be to try Chromium and see if that same crash keeps
happening...? https://flathub.org/apps/org.chromium.Chromium
