Is it possible that the last time you used it the *.lck file was still there 
and when you opened it, you opened it read only?  Try closing it and when you 
reopen if you get the message that the file is in use, just select open anyway.

It has been a long time since I last used Gnucash.  Last week, when I
opened Gnucash I could review all of my data but I could not put in any
new data.  Does anyone have any idea on how I can fix this?
