Chance are you have opened the file in read only mode. It may have been
left in locked mode.  Exit GnuCash and start it again. If you get a
diakog at startup choose the option to open anyway.

If this doen't fix the problem,  the next most likely problem will be a
file permissions issue. Make sure you have read/write access to the
file.
