I recently ran into some difficulty with one of my gnucash accounts that had me needing to re-reconcile from April 2024 forward. I have now printed all the statements for my asset and liability accounts. I deleted the log files and began the job of downloading transactions and reconciling each account. I know, I have more time than brains. One of the unanticipated results of just deleting the data in one swell foop is that I also deleted the data in another account. My bad!
I delete log files all the time and it doesn't affect the transactions within the data file. Now, if you deleted transactions in one account register then the rest of the transaction in the other account registers are also removed. You can't have an unbalanced transaction.
Here's the question: *Does Gnucash allow for different file locations for different data sets?* Example - I have a data set for my personal finances and a different data set for an organization for which I am the treasurer.
Yes, I'd open those files up and save them to distinct and unique file folders (directories). I have four unique set of books I maintain. Each has their own location. It is like storing letters or spreadsheets for different organizations. Each one has their own location.
I THINK in deleting log files for my personal dataset I also deleted some log files for the organization since they are in the same directory.. Accounts in that second set were no longer reconciled though the actual transactions still exist.
That sounds strange to me. Removing the log and backup files should not affect the transactions within the main data file.
I presume you are using File Explorer/File Manager to remove those files at the O/S level. I don't think you mentioned your O/S or GnC Version.
