With gnucash, you do not (cannot) pre-set all the report parameters. You FIRST run the report "default" and THEN use edit=>report options to change the parameters for THIS running of the report. Those will stay set as long as the report open in a tab (and you can also save a report). Even if you use the latter there are usually SOME parameters you will change (for example, the dates)
