I have my credit card set up such that any charge that shows up on the
account causes a text to be sent to me. Aside from catching everything
in GnuCash, it helps when I'm waiting in the car to know when to drive
to the front-door to pick up the wife!
Also the same for the debit card.
The final benefit is knowing almost instantly when someone has stolen
the information and is fraudulently using the card. Yes, that person is
now serving time in jail.
PS. For home owners -- see if your local government will send you an
email whenever action is taken that affects the title on your property.
I hasn't happened to me but I am hearing about title theft that goes
undetected until it's almost too late.
