I hear you that there's no get-balance-as-of-date function. But it
would seem that there ought to be a simple Get-Current-Balance function
in GnuCash; so that users could query what an account balance is as of
the CURRENT date. That seems like an almost basic need for an
accounting program. In all the years of GnuCash development has no one
found a need for that? Has no one ever requested that feature? Would
it help any if such a feature request was made via Bugzilla?

since these columns are labeled "Formula" that also implies that I can
enter a mathematical expression (i.e., a formula) that results in a
CALCULATED dollar value. There is some bare bones documentation about

any info there on how to query an account to get its current balance,
which is what I need. Does anyone know how to grab an account balance
so that it can be included as a variable in a formula? If anyone has
