While you can re-name the app as noted, you don't need to, as not only is it shown in Finder Preview column, but also available from the GnuCash > About GnuCash menu item while it is running.

The downside to adding the version number or renaming, is that when you attempt to install a new version, you will not get the dialog to 'replace or keep both copies' of the app and will always get a new one in addition to the old version. This may or may not be what you want.

when moved to applications it just says gnucash no version in file name. can i
change that so i know at a glance what version it is? thanks.

does it make sense to simply install new sw version?

should i install 5.12?
should i uninstall 5.3-1?

what other steps should i take to do this new install correctly? i also have
4.12 installed.
