Thanks, Derek, but below doesn't seem to be related to my issue under Win11. 
BTW: My GnuCash actually does open the file I click on - which I usually don't 
and let GnuCash just open the last one. Jan

Hi,

Please remember that on a Mac, GnuCash /ALWAYS/ opens the most-recent file, 
regardless of "what you click on".  I.e., double-clicking on a file WILL NOT 
necessarily get GnuCash to Open that file!  You ALWAYS need to File -> Open to 
"change" the file you're opening.  Also, if you File -> Save, the new location 
will be the one used next time you open GnuCash.

Having said that, I have no idea why there are delays in your iCloud Drive.
