I use a version of suggestion #2, e.g., I have descriptions Amazon and also
Amazon Kindle for books. Basically I tack on enough to identify the other
account(s) for the split.
I also make use of Duplicate instead of the matching if I know that there
is a recent transaction in the register that is similar to the new one (has
the same or similar splits).
If, as in the example, you produce a transaction with several splits that
you don't want, you can use "Remove Other Splits" under Transaction to
clear the detritus.
