Hi Stan,

If your definition of posted-in-advance transactions are transactions you have scheduled for bill pay where you know the amount and date of payment, there is no objection. If your definition includes entering future transactions which have not been scheduled for bill pay or the amount or date is not known, I do have objection.

When you used scheduled transactions, it sounds like you checked the "create automatically" box for transactions you did not want to have automatically entered. Personally, we don't use "create automatically".

Sherlock

Can someone explain to me the objection to posted-in-advance

argument, but I'm really curious.

I used to use scheduled transactions exclusively, but that didn't tell
me if the bill pays that I scheduled with my bank and credit cards would
overdraw my checking account. When I started entering a
posted-in-advance transaction every time I scheduled a bill pay, the
picture got much clearer. I do use Edit » Preferences » Register »
Future transaction after blank transaction, so it's always obvious which
transactions have been posted in advance.

I still use scheduled transactions for recurring automatic payments by
credit card, and for accrual entries at the end of the month, quarter,
and year.
