Probably all the elements of the entire view should be saved. It is better to 
over-save then to under-save. Thinking of MS Registry hives here ...

I normally implement something like this in my coding: set sane default value 
to element1; read config file and if config file has the setting for elelemt1 
then set elemet1 to that; rinse-and-repeat

This allows a seasoned person to tweak only necessary elements of their 
choosing.

If you are going to propose a button to save account register display style, I 
would suggest also [optionally] saving the sort order and column settings.
