Windows 10 - All the updates.

I had no problems with installs/upgrades until v5.12, so I stayed at v5.11 for a while... Joined this mailing list and got my answers.

Yesterday I upgraded to v5.14 and had the same pop-up about missing files, blah, blah.

Deleted the offending directory at C:\Program Files (x86)\gnucash

All subfolders were empty, except some .dlls which hadn't been deleted automatically [I think they were in bin].

Re-installed 5.14 and working fine.

Thank you for the tips.

Chris

Given the installer detects and then uninstalls earlier versions of
GnuCash, shouldn't it be fixed so that all the necessary files are
deleted? It seems that if to avoid these bugs a manual uninstall plus
installation folder deletion is required, then it's not working.

In theory yes, having the installer uninstall an earlier version should be
sufficient. There
are some odd cases though where the installer doesn't uninstall *all* files and
hence
older files remain in place.

I have never been able to figure out what were the conditions for this to
happen. I only
have a few clues:

* If a file was altered since the installation, it will not always be
uninstalled
* If the file is still open (for example because gnucash is still running) it
won't be
uninstalled.

So perhaps one of these was at play ?

Note that not everyone updating gnucash on Windows runs into this, so there are
certainly cases where the installer properly does what it should.

Geert
