For the record (and for Jerry if he chooses to dig further into this specific
solution after changing the desktop settings) : settings.ini does not exist
automatically, and users may actually have to create this file from scratch
using a text editor.
Further, I think the wiki page on the subject is pretty complete in its
guidance. If anything, it's over the top in its coverage! So, there's no real
need to go to Google. Increasing the font via the settings file is covered in
https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/GTK3#Via_settings.ini -- and there is a wealth of
information about other changes a user can make a well.
Hi, fellow Linux user (PCLinuxOS here: Love it!)
First, enable view of hidden files in file browser ie the .xxx files.
Then there are 2 ways to sort this: Globally for everything: in which case
you can change the global desktop fonts (I use Mate, & font is changed by
System Preferences>Appearance>Fonts, then set as desired. Other
Desktop managers are handled in a similar way.
If you only wish to change font in Gnucash: You can follow the instructions
in the Gnucash Wiki:
(extract)
Via settings.ini
Create if necessary and add the following line to
GTK_CONFIG_HOME/settings.ini:
[Settings]
gtk-font-name=Arial 14
(end)
in my case the file was in (HOME)/.config/gtk-3.0/settings.ini
nb: I use Midnight Commander to look & edit these types of jobs. I actually
used font size 16.
Gnucash recently changed to gtk 3.0, & you will need to look for the config
file.
I found all this info by Googling, so I feel it is important to try a bit of
Googling first!
It seems the Linux community is a bit behind updating the tools to change
screen Scaling particularly
with huge high definition displays. It will happen but until then one needs to
adapt.
Please! Don“t give up! There are people here to help, but also one needs to
help themselves (Google is yr friend too).
The developers of Gnucash, & Linux developers generally are fantastic! Please
do not go back to the dark side (TIC)!
