Well then I guess disabling the antivirus is your only option. The OS maintainers you trust have abandoned you and the people willing to maintain stable, safe, interfaces only do so with open source software. you have to meet them where they are if you demand that.
I don't think its as big a deal as you think either. My first computer ran FVWM2 when I was 10 and my current computer is capable of running the exact same WM config.
