After Ctrl-Alt-Space you can use the arrow keys to choose and then press 
<enter> if you don't want to jump to your mouse

Hah thanks Christopher, never realised you could do that.  To be honest
though I find it quicker to just go Ctrl-PageUp,  PageUp,  PageUp :-)
Ctrl-Alt-Space means I then have to grab the mouse and click on the
relevant tab name.
