David,

The FAQ on the wiki concerning Backups will lead you to this wiki page:
https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Backup

This will give you the complete overview of where files are located and help you decide which files you want to preserve and migrate for each operating system.

Also have a look at the answers for this topic about multiple computers as that may pertain to you during the transition:
https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/FAQ#Multiple_Computers.2C_Users.2C_...

From both of those you will find that the data file (there is generally just one) is not location dependent per OS. You decide where you want to store it.

The preferences & reports on the other hand, along with any customizations are a different matter. The above wiki links will assist you on that front.

Otherwise, just be sure for simplicity's sake, to use the same major version of GnuCash on both systems. (even same minor version would be best, but not required) This will come in handy while trying to tutor your under-study as there won't be any differences between your app versions.

Regards,
Adrien

Hello,
I have been using GnuCash to manage a Non-Profit Organization for several
years.
Now I am in the process of training an under-study to assume my Treasurer
role, so I want to share my GnuCash Data files with him.

To facilitate the process, I want to copy my GnuCash data files to a thumb
drive AND have my understudy download the GnuCash program onto his PC.
Then, if I'm correct, all I need to do is copy my thumb drive data files
onto his PC and my understudy should be ready to begin managing the
Non-Profit, right?

Questions:
1. *How can I be sure* that I have collected ALL of the necessary data
files?
2. Do the data files need to be stored in a particular location relative to
the GnuCash Program files?
3. Do you have any other insights on this process that I might have
overlooked?
