Julie ,

There is no need to be scared.  In many cases the suggested commands
from the AI will help but they don't always work if your system varies
from whatever the AI got its information from.  The main thing is to be
wary of any commands which ask you to delete files from system areas on
your computer (generally anything other than your home directory or
where you need sudo permissions to delete stuff). The GTK inspector is
not really necessary to get a trace dump for a crash. Flatpak makes it
a bit harder than in the straight Linux Mint environment because it
isolates the application from the operating system which has some
advantages in that your operating system installation is better
protected with the disadvantage that accessing information is a bit
more convoluted

gdb is the gnu debug tool. It allows you to execute a program one line
at a time which is useful in tracking down exactly where in the code a
particular problem is occurring. It and the GTK inspector are not
really user space tools but are more intended for use by developers.
GTK is a library used to construct the display windows and tabs in
GnuCash.

A stack trace tells developers exactly what code was executing when the
operating system or a program being run on it crashes. The procedure is
a little different for system crashes and program crashes although a
program problem is frequently the source of system crashes.

Linux Mint automatically generates crash reports if the system crashes.
You can access them from the menu (Menu->Administration->System
Information then select the tab Crash Reports. If a crash has occurred
there will be information about  it-a stack trace. The pastebin button
will copy and store that information to a specific location somewhere
on the internet and give you a link to that location which you can then
copy and paste into emails, bug reports etc.

For a crash in a program i.e. usually the program is unresponsive but
your computer can still be accessed and other applications are still
responsive. The general procedure uses the gdb program but that is less
useful for flatpak versions. GnuCash also has some internal debugging
which is generated when it is started with a "--debug" switch on the
command line and it creates its own execution trace file as it runs.

You should be able to access the tracefile created when your GnuCash
program was last run using
the command
"/run/user/1000/.flatpak/org.gnucash.GnuCash/tmp/gnucash.trace" at a
terminal. AFAIK that will copy the tracefile to your terminal and you
can then copy and paste from the terminal to an email for example.

You may need to replace the number 1000 in that command with your user
id on your system. You find that by using the command "id -u" at the
terminal prompt and if the number it returns is different from 1000
(usually isn't unless your system has multiple users) substitute the
returned number for 1000 in the above command.

If the original trace file from when it last crashed is missing or has
been overwritten by running GnuCash again since  and you know the steps
which lead to it crashing you can run GnuCash in debug mode with the
following command at a terminal
flatpak run org.gnucash.GnuCash --debug --log "gnc=info",

reproduce the crash and then access the gnucash trace file as above.
If a crash can't be reproduced, then it will be very difficult if not
near impossible to track the problem downand it is generally better to
wait until the problem becomes reproducible.

It sometimes takes a bit of time for people on the mailing list to work
out what your level of understanding of computers/programming etc is
and once they do most of us will try to pitch replies at an appropriate
level.
