Hi John and everyone, I have noticed a difference between GnuCash 5.16 and 5.17 in how the Lots window handles an existing lot containing a stock split. Could you help me determine whether this is a known issue or whether I need to change how these lots are handled?
I use GnuCash on macOS with an XML book. In June 2025, the ETF I hold, 0050 (Yuanta Taiwan 50), underwent a 4-for-1 stock split. I recorded it using GnuCash’s Stock Split Assistant. For one affected account, the share movements in the 2025 lot are: - Opening balance: 32,000 shares - Sale before the stock split: −2,000 shares - Stock split: +90,000 shares, increasing the holding from 30,000 to 120,000 shares, with no change in total cost - Sale after the stock split: −20,000 shares - Year-end closing entry: −100,000 shares As part of my annual bookkeeping workflow, I close the remaining holding at year-end and reopen it in a new lot for the following year. The stock-split entry is assigned to the 2025 lot, and the raw share quantities listed above sum to zero. When I open the same book in the two versions: - 5.16: The 2025 lot has a zero share balance and a closing date. - 5.17: The same lot is shown as open, with a balance of 90,000 shares—exactly the additional shares recorded by the stock split. I returned to 5.16 to check, and the lot again displayed as closed with a zero balance. The separate 2026 lot shows the same remaining holding of 20,000 shares in both versions. I see similar symptoms in other accounts holding the same ETF, so it does not appear to be limited to one account. The versions I compared are: - GnuCash 5.16, build 5.16+(2026-06-27) - GnuCash 5.17, build 5.17+(2026-09-26) - Finance::Quote 1.71 in both I noticed that the 5.17 release notes mention changes to stock-split handling in the Show Lots dialog, and PR #2260 describes using adjusted share amounts and excluding stock-split splits from lots: https://github.com/Gnucash/gnucash/pull/2260 Could this affect existing lots where the Stock Split Assistant entry was already assigned to the lot? Is there a documented migration or recommended procedure for such lots, or should I report this as a regression in Bugzilla? For now, I have returned to 5.16 and have not added any offsetting share transactions to force the lot balance to zero. I can provide redacted comparison screenshots if helpful. Thank you for your help.
