My understanding is that it is OK to do this. If you go beyond this and start *distributing* a hybrid program as opposed to just tournament play you should review the GPL (and let us know). Out of curiosity, how does your program compare in strength to GNU Go, and what portions of GNU Go do you make use of (and how)?
