Seems I have an old libgsf-1.14.7 and the latest is 1.9.1. Will try
upgrading.

config.log has:

configure:21786: checking for GNOME
configure:21794: $PKG_CONFIG --exists --print-errors
"$goffice_gnome_reqs"
Package libgsf-gnome-1 was not found in the pkg-config search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `libgsf-gnome-1.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
No package 'libgsf-gnome-1' found
configure:21797: $? = 1
configure:21812: $PKG_CONFIG --exists --print-errors
