I was pointed to the log file that Apache makes and given the referer tag:
LogFormat "%h %l %u %t \"%r\" %>s %b \"%{Referer}i\" \"%{User-agent}i\""
combined
CustomLog log/access_log combined
I then looked at gnump3d.conf and found this commented line:
# Specify the format of the logfile, this may use any valid variables
# which are defined in package "main".
I couldn't find package "main" or should that be man (these valid variables
weren't in the man pages).
Can the Apache variable of "Referer" be used with gnump3d?

I've been using gnump3d for over a year now with no problems in Slackware 11.
I've seen there are programs that generate statistics reports based on
the server access.log file that a server makes. gnump3d already has the stats
program that does this. Here are my May stats:

One of the things this plugin doesn't have is where a visitor was referenced to
your server. For instance, did a search engine send them to your
server?
Is this information found in your access.log file? Here is one of the first
lines in my May file:
131.107.0.72 - - [21/May/2007:20:45:49 +0000] "GET /" 200 11110 "-"
"Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 5.2; SV1; .NET CLR 1.1.4322;
InfoPath.2; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 3.0.04506.30)"
