QuickerHash is a crossplatform tool that aims for a pleasant-looking
UI
that's laser-focused on digital security education and being a
specialized tool for nontechnical users. The UI is provided by
FlatLAF,
so it should look and feel pretty much like JetBrains' IDEs (which
use
their own customized fork of FlatLAF).

Another easy to use tool is to use a browser extension that improves
the download user interface. Many of these extensions helpfully
display
the common hashes as a tooltip for each downloaded file or offers it
on a
short right click menu in the improved UI.
Figuring out which extension to recognize is left as an exercise for
the
teacher or textbook author.

I'm a Linux user and I have installed GTKHash and is enough for me.
Just to clarify: My suggestion was for something ultra-easy for
journalists etc., not a GNOME-only standalone GUI tool.
